Happy New Year!
The new year certainly brings new things that I’m excited about. I’ve relaunched my website, charlievensel.com. Of course, it highlights my Christian Life Coaching & Spiritual Direction practice, which gives me a larger platform to do what I love.
Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”– Howard Thurman
What Makes Me Come Alive?
I always come back to ministry, particularly preaching, teaching, discipleship, and the extraordinary experiences I’ve had working one-on-one with people in Christian Life Coaching and Spiritual Direction.
I want to thank two friends at New 4RMations, Tim McNamara and Alan Welchel, for their encouragement. We were having dinner the other night, talking about where God might be taking each of us in the New Year. I shared that I was considering re-launching my website so I could do more Coaching, Spiritual Direction, and thinking out loud in my blog. Tim looked at me with excited urgency and said, “You need to be doing more that!” Alan said, “It’s time to tap that deep well again and let it out.” Encouragement is a wonderful thing. Thanks, guys.
Of course, some will be asking, “Since you are launching your own website, are you leaving New 4RMations?” No, of course not. All that New 4RMations does fits well within my wheelhouse. This new website just allows me to focus a little more specifically on Coaching, Spiritual Direction, and my personal blog.
My Personal Blog
The blog portion of my new website is a labor of love. That does not mean this is the best-looking. most-polished, or most-followed blog out there. That’s not the point. It does mean that I have things inside of me that must find their way into words.
I recently heard a former seminary professor, Chuck DeGroat, speak of something that he shares with his students, “If you believe you have something to say, just start writing.” (Sorry, Chuck, if that is not a direct quote.) I took it to mean, that when we start writing (or podcasting), the message in our hearts starts to come out.
So, I need a place to think out loud, to get it all down, and process it with God. See, I don’t just want to proclaim “truth”, but the journey of wrestling with it until it actually changes me; the relief of lived truth. It is part of who he created me to be, my calling, and how I take that into the kingdom around me.
There is already some cornerstone content up on the blog, written posts that articulate some of the more technical aspects of what I do, and a few more personal ones. There are also a few recorded sermons from last year, Tonight, Your Soul Is Required and Ain’t No Rest For The Weary, and one I preached just last Sunday, entitled Unwrapping “Life To The Full”.
Finding “Life To The Full” In Real-Time
However, you will find my most of my coming blog posts and The Life To The Full Podcast episodes to be more of what I’m processing in real-time; what’s going on inside my own heart.
My quest to uncover “life to the full”, like your quest, like all great quests, has many ups and downs, and is continuous, so some of the content will be a bit random, and at times, raw and embarrassingly transparent. If I am to be honest with God, and of any help to myself or others, I really don’t know any other way to do this.
I have learned a bit, usually the hard way, about what is involved in living “life to the full”. Of course, I don’t do it near perfectly, nor as often as I desire, but I am finding a bit more of it year-to-year. I don’t want to stop.
I’m honored to bring you right into my heart as I keep pressing into it. My hope is that it strikes a chord with your own quest, and together, we can become more fully alive.
Content Twice Weekly? Really?
My goal for 2019 is to post two times a week (between my website and New 4RMations), be it a written post, a short video, or a podcast. That’s a tall order, but a prompting I’ve not been able to ignore for the last few weeks as I’ve been working to launch this website on New Year’s Day.
Thank You For Joining Me
If my blog suits you, please sign up for notifications about new content (on the little pop-up form or on the sidebar of the blog post page) and subscribe, like, follow, share, and review the podcast on your favorite podcatcher. And, always feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or suggested topics. I’m always looking for podcast interviewees too.
I look forward to us getting to know each other better in the coming new year, and, where all of this might lead.
I want to close with a prayer for the New Year:
Lord, You make all things new– A modern prayer for the New Year from www.lords-prayer-words.com.
You bring hope alive in our hearts
And cause our Spirits to be born again.
Thank you for this new year
For all the potential it holds.
Come and kindle in us
A mighty flame
So that in our time, many will see the wonders of God
And live forever to praise Your glorious name.”
